We are saved and justified when we recognize ourselves as sinners deserving Hell and we put our trust in the finished work of Christ, apart from human work or merit of any kind. Salvation is by grace through faith plus nothing.

Romans 3:24: Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Romans 4:5: But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
